Closed Rhinoplasty

Nose Aesthetics not only eliminates aesthetic concerns but also provides permanent solutions to breathing problems. The closed rhinoplasty technique is a modern approach in nose aesthetics that leaves no visible scars on the external appearance and delivers superior results in terms of comfort and aesthetics.

What Is Nose Aesthetics and How Is It Performed?
Nose aesthetics (Rhinoplasty) is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting nasal deformities. It can basically be performed using two different techniques: the open surgery performed by making a small incision under the nose, and the closed technique performed without making any external incisions. When both methods are applied with correct and appropriate techniques, they yield similar success rates. However, since each patient’s anatomical structure and needs are different, the most suitable technique should be decided by evaluating the patient’s condition.

In open technique nose aesthetics, the surgery is performed by making a small incision along the lower line of the nose. This technique is especially preferred in noses with severe deviation and in revision cases (previously operated noses). The closed technique, on the other hand, is an approach in which all interventions are performed from inside the nose, leaving no external scars.

Before surgery, a detailed evaluation is performed for each patient and a personalized treatment plan is created. Studies are carried out on preoperative photographs, and the patient is informed through Photoshop drawings or simulations. If requested by the patient, multiple preoperative consultations can be held and all questions are answered.

Advantages of the Closed Rhinoplasty Technique
The biggest advantage of Closed Technique Rhinoplasty surgery is that it leaves no incision scars on the outside of the nose. When applied with proper patient selection and by an experienced surgeon, this method provides excellent results in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

Shorter operation time, faster recovery, and less postoperative swelling and bruising are among the other advantages of the closed technique. Thanks to the total subperichondrial technique applied in our clinic, postoperative swelling and bruising are reduced to a minimum. During the operation, continuous cold water and ice application is used to reduce edema.

Special techniques are used during surgery to perform a bloodless operation and minimize tissue damage. Bone modifications and cutting procedures are carried out using micro motors or micro saws, thereby minimizing tissue damage and accelerating the recovery process.

In our modern approach, instead of techniques that weaken the nasal skeletal structure, we aim to shape the nose by preserving the cartilage and bone structures and to prevent long-term deterioration of the nasal structure. In this way, the risk of nasal drooping or deformation in the following years is significantly reduced.

Rhinoplasty Surgery Process and Anesthesia
Aesthetic Nose Surgeries can be performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the patient’s condition and preference. However, general anesthesia is usually preferred in terms of patient comfort and surgical precision. Although the duration of surgery varies from person to person, it takes an average of 1.5–2 hours.

During Closed Rhinoplasty Surgery, not only the external appearance of the nose is corrected, but intranasal problems can also be treated. Conditions that make breathing difficult, such as intranasal deviations, enlargement of the nasal turbinates (inferior turbinate hypertrophy), ballooning of the intranasal turbinates (concha bullosa), and sinus problems (sinusitis, osteomas), can be corrected in the same session.

One of the most important differences of our clinic is that no uncomfortable nasal packing is placed inside the nose after surgery. Instead, perforated silicone splints are used, allowing the patient to breathe even immediately after the operation. This comfort factor significantly improves the postoperative experience of our patients.

Recovery Process and Results
The recovery process after Nose Surgery takes place in several stages. Silicone splints are removed 2–4 days after surgery, and the splint and tapes are removed after 8–12 days. When the splint is first removed, the nose is still swollen and has not yet taken its final shape. The swollen state of the nose usually decreases significantly by the end of the first month, but it may take longer for it to take its final shape.

Thanks to the special techniques applied in our clinic, bruising does not occur in most patients or remains at a minimal level. Swelling and bruising largely subside within the first week after surgery. The time required for a nose to take its final shape may vary between 6 months and 2 years depending on the patient’s skin structure and other factors.

During the first preoperative consultation, photographs are taken, consultation notes are recorded, and personalized simulation studies are performed for our patients. In light of this information, a detailed surgical plan is created. When necessary, multiple consultations are held with the patient to answer all questions and clarify expectations.

For a successful outcome in closed rhinoplasty surgery, the surgeon’s experience, the patient’s anatomical characteristics, and the correct selection of technique are of great importance. As Dr. İbrahim Korhan and his team, we aim to provide each of our patients with natural-looking and functional results tailored to their individual needs and anatomical structure.
